Ode to Early Fall – Celebrating September, a New School Year, and a Time When Life Begins Again

Ode to Early Autumn

Sweet white fairy wings,
Purple, when the poke plant sings,
Dance across the arbor tall,
Paint my garden–fall.

It’s finally September, and I celebrated the changing of the months by taking a stroll through my garden. I noted that many of my early spring bloomers have shriveled and turned brown. Yet, there are still signs of new beginnings.

The Jewish people celebrate their New Year during September, and my spirit does the same thing. When I was a child, I rarely received new things, but when school started, I always got a new dress, a new pair of shoes, and a new box of crayons.

On September, I get that new-box-of-crayons feeling, and my spirit is restored.
