After months of waiting, I started teaching Art Classes today — and that felt great!

The First Painting Class will be:

Sunflower with the Blues

Today, I explained a bit of my color theory, which involves shading with color. There is no background in Sunflower with the Blues. That is intentional. It is a focused study of shading in color.

The second painting will be Forest Daffodil, which adds a background,
Both of the first two paintings focus on teaching how to shade yellow with adding orange. Future paintings will progress to shading other colors:

Red Hibiscus

One by one, we will study each color until we are ready to paint and shade in color all the colors:

During the month of January and possibly February, I will provide all the supplies. Gradually, I’ll ask the students to buy a few supplies each month. I don’t want the cost of supplies to prohibit students from the opportunity to paint.
The Cost of each class is $35 for 1.5 hours
Payable at the beginning of the month for the month ahead.
Students may study on Mondays at 9:30 or during an afternoon class or an evening class.
Although the students had registered for a watercolor class, I began today where I always began–with teaching drawing & shading–because I agree with the wise person who first said, Painting is Colored Drawing, and I’ll add to shade in color, your must first understand how to shade in black and white. In order to paint Sunflower with the Blues in color, you must understand that painting in black and white.

Apologetically, I asked the students to spend the first class reviewing drawing and shading with pencil.
