Achieving My Goals by Beginning New Habits

Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man,
but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

2021 has begun, and I’ve hit the ground running. First, I established my goals, and today, I’ve started working towards those goals by deliberately establishing new habits.

I’ve read that if you do a thing for 30 days straight, you will have begun a new habit, and I know from past experience that habits are hard to break. Accountability plays a huge part in the 12 Steps programs, Weight Watchers, etc. Although I am in no program, I have created a table in my OneNote digital diary. I’ve listed the habit that i hope to create in one block, and beside that, I have 31 boxes. Each day, when I achieve the habit-beginning behavior that I’m seeking, I’ll place an “X” in that box, and by February – Voila! I’ll have created some new, positive habits to replace some of my not-so-positive behaviors.

Today is the first day of Tara Lazar’s StoryStorm 2021

And I have created a special chart in GoodNotes to track my ideas for StoryStorm.

OneNote is a free digital planner from Microsoft Store. I don’t know how I’ve lived so long without it. Above you see my Idea tracker for StoryStorm. Note that the tables work exactly like they do in Microsoft Word. You can continuously add to both the columns and the rows of your tables.

I have also discovered that OneNote is an excellent way to documenting and finding again the posts that I want to remember from Facebook. Today, on January 1, 2021, Facebook reminded me that a year ago, I posted about the classic book The Secret Garden. Well, I didn’t even remember posting that, but now, that post is separated from the herd on my OneNote notebook.

Here’s another tip: By dragging that page down, just above March, I have saved it in a spot where I think I’ll feel more like dealing with and/or posting about this thought again. In March, I turn into a Gardening Gizmo, and I know that I’ll need some garden ideas by March.

You may elect to add images or not, but either way, the program is both quick and easy.

I used the Amigirl font to create the above illustrated quote.

I am also creating Weekly Habits by creating a similar chart with 7 blank grids. One of my goals is to do several things for 1 week.

For instance, each week I’ll focus on one font. The font for this week is Amigirl. I’m doing this to help familiarize myself with a number of fonts. Arial and Times New Roman get old.

With these thoughts, I’ll leave you for today. I have officially left 2020 behind, and I have jetted into 2021.

Happy New Year.
