I Take Workshops with Other Artists to Force Myself Out of My Comfort Zone Which Inevitably Becomes My Rut

This is not what I consider to be my “style,” but I am pleased to say that I discovered a workshop with Master Acrylic Painter Jed Dorsey, and I am also pleased to say that he is leading me into the valuable experience of trying new things:
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” — Neale Donald Walsch
When I realized that Jed Dorsey includes Mars Black in his limited palette of  paints, my initial reaction was, “RUN!” I have never painted with black. In fact, I have avoided black paint like the plague. But I reconsidered my biases and reminded myself:

“You cannot keep doing the same thing. the same way, and keep expecting something different to happen.” Source Unknown

If I were convinced my art style was perfect, I wouldn’t be taking any art workshops. I watched Jed’s tutorial carefully, dusted myself off, and I gave myself permission to loathe what I created, and I simply waded in.

Painting by Jed Dorsey

I actually like Jed’s almost abstract style in his painting.

Soon into the demo,  I realized that none of my brushes were large enough. Today, I ordered a Princeton Summit Brush #20. I have not painted with a brush that large since art school. In a way, I am gathering strength to return to my roots which are in abstract art.
