Thanksgiving for God’s Goodness

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name.
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and do not forget all his benefits—
3Â who forgives all your iniquity,
    who heals all your diseases,
4Â who redeems your life from the Pit,
    who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5Â who satisfies you with good as long as you live[a]
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord works vindication
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
7Â He made known his ways to Moses,
    his acts to the people of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9Â He will not always accuse,
    nor will he keep his anger for ever.
10Â He does not deal with us according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11Â For as the heavens are high above the earth,
    so great is his steadfast love towards those who fear him;
12Â as far as the east is from the west,
    so far he removes our transgressions from us.
13Â As a father has compassion for his children,
    so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
14Â For he knows how we were made;
    he remembers that we are dust.
15Â As for mortals, their days are like grass;
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16Â for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
    and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
    on those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to children’s children,
18Â to those who keep his covenant
    and remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
    and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
    you mighty ones who do his bidding,
    obedient to his spoken word.
21 Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
    his ministers that do his will.
22 Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.

1Â I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, for ever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.

your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

I have sworn to my servant David:
4 “I will establish your descendants for ever,

Psalm 81
Sing aloud to God our strength;
shout for joy to the God of Jacob.
2Â Raise a song, sound the tambourine,
the sweet lyre with the harp.
3Â Blow the trumpet at the new moon,
at the full moon, on our festal day.
4Â For it is a statute for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5Â He made it a decree in Joseph,
when he went out over[a]Â the land of Egypt.
I hear a voice I had not known:
6 ‘I relieved your[b] shoulder of the burden;
your[c]Â hands were freed from the basket.
7Â In distress you called, and I rescued you; Psalm 81:1-7a:

2Â for he has founded it on the seas,
    and established it on the rivers.
3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
4Â Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
5 They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
6Â Such is the company of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.[a]Selah

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
    and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11Â For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
    and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
    to spring up before all the nations. Isaiah 61:10-11
