In toying with the concept of whether or not a goldfish is orange or whether it is gold, I decided to create a metallic gold goldfish in response to the #Intober52 Challenge: Goldfish.

What Is Inktober 52?

While toying with the concept of what is gold about goldfish, I decided to  create my next #inktober52 prompt drawing with a combination of ink drawing and metallic washes. #inktober52goldfish #jackikellum #jackikellumstudios, 

I did try the paints, and I can tell that I will love working with these, I realized I needed better black paper, and I have ordered Stonehenge Aqua Black Watercolor Paper.

The paper won’t be here until after this week’s #intober52 challenge has ended, but I am thrilled that I have discovered this alternative way to paint watercolor transparently on black paper.

The Artistro metallic watercolor paints can be washed until they are transparent–thus allowing the black paper to surface.

I have some brush tip sharpies, and I like the bit of darkening feathered edge they create add some depth to the Metallic watercolor.

In the following video, note how the brush tip allows me to blend–with Sharpies.

I have recently purchased every Artistro Acrylic Paint Marker Available–I even have 100 Artistro Acryoic]c Markers with Dual tips–both fine points and brush tips.

For working work with the Artistro metallic watercolors, it might seem that Artistro Acrylic Markers would be preferable to Sharpies. But for the evolving transparent style I am seeking, the Paint Markers are too opaque.

The Sharpie brush Markers on the black papers work a bit like water. They thin the Metallic Watercolor, while adding a bit of an edge.

I’ll also be using Sharpie Mystic Gem Markers. The tones of the Metallic Paints is similar to those of the Mystic Gems:

I have also ordered some Artistro Metallic Dual Tip Markers:

I suspect that these markers will be too opaque for transparent feathering.
