Theora Hamblett – I Remember

Hamblett, Theora. I Remember. Theora Hamblett, 1971.

“Why am I willing to write ‘I Remember’?

“As a youngster, I enjoyed listening to older persons tell about their experiences, and their experiences became part of my memory.  Though of course I do not remember all that they told me, details of their lives lodge here and there in my subconscious, making me wish I could recall everything they told me about settling this country.

“Their history is now becoming slowly but surely obscured, forgotten, with the coming of each new generation. No one thought about writing down details of everyday life then; those creating the details were too busy digging a living out of the ground to consider that the younger generations would care to read of their experiences.

“Now I am among the older group. I realize my memories will soon be forgotten, too.

“Before I do forget, I am going to attempt to put some of those memories down on paper. These will be included in this book. …

“As I tried to write these old memories, I relived those days, and even used some of the language used back then.” – Theora Hamblett
