Without a lengthy review of how things got this way, in most countries today, Christmas is celebrated on December 25–religiously–so to speak. But a bit of understanding is in order to understand when to expect the first day of Advent. Keep this tip in mind: Advent begins on a Sunday–the fourth Sunday before Christmas.  In 2024, the Advent Calendar has been neat and tidy. The fourth Sunday before Advent was December 1 and in 2024, Advent began on December 1.

In 2023, the first Sunday of Advent was December 3,

In 2025 the first day of Advent is November 30.

In 2025 the first day of Advent is November 30.

In 2026 the first day of Advent is November 29.

In 2027 the first day of Advent is November 28.
