How to Make Homemade Alcohol Infusions and Liqueurs from Fruits and Herbs

What Is An Infusion?

An Infusions is “a drink, remedy, or extract prepared by soaking the leaves of a plant or herb in liquid.
‘a strong rosemary infusion.'” Dictionary
When the liquid infused is liquor, the infusion is a type of liquor or liqueur.

What Is A Liqueur?

A liquer is “a strong, sweet alcoholic liquor, usually drunk after a meal.” Dictionary

Recipe for Lemon Balm Liqueur

Crush A Handful of Lemon Balm Leaves and put them in a mason jar.
Cover the leaves with either brandy or vodka.
Place a lid on the jar.
Store in a dark, cool closet for at least 24 hours.
Test the solution in 24 hours. If the mixture is lemony enough, strain it.
Add honey to thicken and sweeten the drink.
Store for up to 6 months.

Recipe for Lemon-Infused Vodka

Ingredients
2 Fresh Lemons
1 Cup Vodka
Wash and quarter lemons.
Place the lemon quarters in a mason jar that has a tight-fitting lid.
Add enough vodka to cover the lemons.
Put the lid on top of the jar.
Store the covered jar in a dark, cool spot for at least 3 days.
Check the infusion. If it is not lemony enough. Put back in the dark clloset until you are happy with the results.
Strain the liquid into another jar.
Serve with ginger ale or tonic water.

Recipe for Apple-Infused Vodka

Ingredients
2 Fresh Apples Washed, Peeled and Sliced
1 Cup Vodka
Place the apple slices in a mason jar that has a tight-fitting lid.
Add enough vodka to cover the apples.
Put the lid on top of the jar.
Store the covered jar in a dark, cool spot for at least 3 days,
Check the infusion. If it does not taste enough like apples, put the infusion back in the dark clloset until you are happy with the results.
Strain the liquid into another jar.
Serve with ginger ale or tonic water.
