For the past several years, I have focused on watercolor painting, but I began my journey as an oil painter, and one of my goals for 2021 is to begin oil painting again.
Watercolor is a fragile medium. If you work on the painting too much, your color gets dirty. Watercolor is difficult for me because I like to get physical when I paint.
I wear many hats in the art world. I write and I paint. I hope for the day when I can illustrate my writing, but I was never trained to be an illustrator. In fact, when I was studying art [over 50 years ago]. illustration was believed to be a bastardization of true art. At that time, “real” artists rejected Walt Disney. Things certainly turned around for Walt Disney.
And here I am today, wishing I had trained as an illustrator years ago. That is why I am trying to master Procreate now.
It seems that most illustrators use a type of watercolor–or at least, they emulate that style digitally. Several years ago, I added watercolor painting to my tool bag, but I initially trained in oil–thick, expressionistic, painterly oil. I still enjoy painting that way traditionally:

When I paint traditionally in oil, I celebrate the paint and the act of painting I paint with bravura.
I am looking forward to using the Bardot Painterly Painters for Procreate. They seem to be a great set for me to let loose in Procreate and to enjoy the process of painting–albeit, on a machine.
