Sunflower with Blues – Jacki Kellum Watercolor

2018 has just begun, and already, I know that this is going to be my banner year. The smartest thing that I have ever done in my life is that of teaming with my old friend Vikk Ransom Hudson, who is the business person that I am not.

Most people don’t know this yet, but I also write and illustrate children’s books, and I am about to submit my manuscript with illustrations for my book Waking Up the Sun. On the surface, the book is about a Rooster who has overslept. He must wake up, or the farm will not survive, but that is not as easy as it seems. Beneath that obvious storyline, however, I am relating something about my own life and about how I have struggled toward the light, for years. Things are going well for me now, and I have painted a couple of sunflowers, but they sunflowers are slightly different.

Sunflowers – Watercolor by Jacki Kellum

Most people seem to prefer Sunflowers, and looking at it now, I believe that this is a painting of my new business partner and me. She is standing in the light, and I am still lurking in the shadow.

Sunflower with Blues is just me, by myself. It is where I am now as I launch into my new year. Things are looking sunny now, and my energy has begun to expand, but deep within myself, I’ll always have that cool and darker place that I call the Blues, and that is what this painting is about.

Jacki Kellum Studios has teamed with Fine Art America, and now, we have some wonderful prints and accessories to offer from the Sunflower with Blues Watercolor Painting.

I believe that my spontaneity and my looseness are the most exciting things about my art, and people say that they enjoy the way that I allow my colors and my marks to flow and to juxtapose themselves throughout my images. When you look at my products in different orientations, you begin to see this magical, almost elusive quality about my paintings. When something can be enjoyed simply because of its color and its markings–and not dependent upon the subject matter–the image takes on a rather abstract and almost philosophical nature, and I believe that is what comes across when only part of the image is displayed. This is true L’art pour l’art–art for art’s sake.
