Do Not Be Afraid – He Is the Bread of Life

Today is Sunday, and I have been out of town for one full week. This morning, I awoke thinking that I deserve to stay home and rest and that I would get back to church next week. I figured that after a week’s vacation from church, I’d be regenerated. Thank goodness, I thought again. It was in going to church that I was regenerated and not in staying at home. Today, I felt that every word of the sermon and that every song that was sung was intended for me.  The message was very simple: Jesus is My Bread. I Do Not Need to Be Afraid.

Like the lilies of the field, I do not have to worry about when this check or that will arrive. I do not need to fret about my next meal. It will work out. It always has. Someone much greater than I is in control.

Today’s scripture at church was as follows:

Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.36 ….For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”  John 6: 35 – 40

After the sermon, the congregation sang: “I am the Bread of Life.”

What a relief it is to begin to grasp the promise that we do not need to be afraid. Fear is one of the most crippling disorders in most of our lives. I continue to pray for greater faith in God’s promises.

I Am the Bread of Life Lyrics

I am the Bread of life,
He who comes to Me shall not hunger,
He who believes in Me shall not thirst.
No one can come to Me
Unless the Father draw him.

And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up on the last day.

The bread that I will give
Is My flesh for the life of the world,
And he who eats of this bread,
He shall live for ever,
He shall live for ever.

And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up on the last day.

Unless you eat
Of the flesh of the Son of Man
And drink of His blood,
And drink of His blood,
You shall not have life within you.

And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up on the last day.

I am the Resurrection,
I am the Life,
He who believes in Me
Even if he die,
He shall live for ever.

And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up on the last day.

Yes, Lord, we believe
That You are the Christ,
The Son of God
Who has come
Into the world.

And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up,
And I will raise him up on the last day.
